 HRH Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal bin Abdulaziz Alsaud, Chairman of Kingdom Holding Company (KHC) received at his office in Riyadh, Mr. Romulo Victor, Charge d’ Affaires who was accompanied by Mr. Cotawato Arimao, Attache at the Philippines Embassy. The meeting was attended by Dr. Nahla Al Anbar, Private Executive Assistant to HRH the Chairman.
The meeting began as the Charge d’ Affaires thanked Prince Alwaleed for giving him the opportunity to meet with him, and presented His Highness with a letter from H.E Ms. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, the President of the Philippines who thanked the Prince for the donation announced recently for medical aid for the Typhoon Ketsana victims. HRH had also received a call from the President who thanked him for his support and generous donation.
The immediate donation was made through Alwaleed Bin Talal Foundation after the Prince’s meeting with HE Mr. Antonio Villamor the Ambassador of the Philippines to Saudi Arabia, where the Prince also conveyed his condolences to President Macapagal-Arroyo for the victims of the disaster and announced his readiness to donate. The allocation and distribution of the donation to those in need was in coordination with the Philippines government.
The Foundation’s donation helped alleviate the suffering of hundreds of victims affected by this disaster.
Prince Alwaleed had met the Filipino President on a number of occasions; during the Prince’s last visit to the Philippines pursuant to an invitation by Ms. Macapagal-Arroyo he was awarded the Highest National Honorary Medal, The Order of The Golden Heart With the Rank of Grand Officer. Moreover, earlier this year HRH hosted a luncheon in her honor at Kingdom Tower.
Prince Alwaleed has solid ties with the Philippines through his investments in the financial sector through Citigroup, and also in hotels through Fairmont Manila and Raffles Manila. The deal to develop these hotels was signed in 2007 by Prince Alwaleed in his capacity as Chairman of Kingdom Hotel Investments (KHI), with Ayala Land, Inc. in Manila during HRH’s visit there.
