Company Profile

AOL develops online brands and websites and associated content. AOL sites and products attract more than 250 million visitors from around the world.

Founded in 1985 as Quantum Computer Services, the company was rebranded as America Online (AOL) in 1991. In 1995, the company launched an international presence through the creation of AOL Germany. In 2000, AOL announced the acquisition of Time Warner for USD 164bn, though Time Warner was spun off as an independent company in 2009 and AOL continues as an independent public company.

2010 saw significant expansion in AOL’s efforts in key areas of the digital landscape: video, local, branded content and brand advertising.

AOL’s 2011 acquisition of The Huffington Post, a fast-growing news and opinion site founded in 2005, resulted in the formation under the AOL banner of the Huffington Post Media Group (HPMG), a leading source of news, information, entertainment, community and digital information.
