KHC has a significant investment in Motorola Solutions, an American company specializing in wireless communications, semiconductors and electronic systems, and integrated communication and embedded electronic solutions. The KHC investment dates from 1997. When Motorola split into two companies in 2011, Motorola Mobility, responsible for the manufacture of mobile cellular devices and cable video equipment, was purchased by Google. Motorola Solutions continues to provide communication products and services to enterprise and government customers, KHC believes that Motorola Solutions is well positioned to profit from the current rapid expansion of mobile data activity at the corporate enterprise level.
As the inventor of the first commercial portable cell phone, Motorola played a leading role in shaping the era of mobile interaction which defines us today. Today the Motorola portfolio includes some of the most successful mobile devices on the market. Motorola connects companies worldwide to seamless communication networks, applications and services as well as providing real-time information through their range of offerings.
The Motorola name goes back to 1930, when brothers Paul V. and Joseph E. Galvin introduced the Motorola radio, one of the first commercially successful car radios. Paul Galvin created the brand name Motorola, - linking ‘motor’ (for motorcar) with ‘ola’ (to represent sound). Thus the Motorola brand symbolizes sound in motion.
In 2011, Motorola split into two independent companies. Motorola Mobility, purchased by Google for USD 12.6bn, makes mobile cellular devices and cable video equipment. Motorola Solutions, a public company, continues to provide mission-critical communication products and services for enterprise and government customers.
