HRH Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Bin Abdulaziz Alsaud, Chairman of Kingdom Holding Company (KHC) received at his office in Riyadh HE Mr. D.S. Gammanpila, Charge D’Affaires, Sri Lanka Embassy to Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Mr. Abdul Latheef Jabeer, Senior Protocol officer. The meeting was also attended by Dr. Nahla Nasser Alanbar, Private Executive Assistant to HRH the Chairman and Mr. Fahad Bin Saad Bin Nafel, Executive Assistant to HRH the Chairman.
The meeting began as Mr. Gammanpila thanked Prince Alwaleed for giving him the opportunity to meet with him. The two touched upon the latest regional and international developments on the social and economic front, and the bi-lateral relations between their respective countries. During the meeting Mr. Gammanpila handed HRH a letter from Prof. G.L. Petris M. P., Minister of External Affairs, Sri Lanka.
Furthermore, Mr. Gammanpila discussed investment opportunities in Sri Lanka especially in the hospitality sector and extended an invitation to HRH to visit the country. Moreover, Mr. Gammanpila expressed his government’s desire to attract HRH’s investments to the country, and said that his government will strive to facilitate and overcome any difficulties or obstacles hindering the success of HRH’s investments.
Moreover, on the agenda of discussions were the Prince’s philanthropic donations where Mr. Gammanpila referred to HRH’s donation to the victims of the tsunami in 2005, which was the largest donation, made by an individual during the disaster. H.E thanked Prince Alwaleed for this remarkable and unforgettable contribution. The two-fold donation comprised cash as well as clothes and tents. This assistance was funneled, as all others through the sole agency officially designated by the Saudi Government to provide aid to the countries ravaged by the Tsunami.
In 2005, HRH visited Sri Lanka and met with President Chandrika Bandaranike Kumaratunga at the time. The Prince’s investments in Sri Lanka include investments in the banking sector through Citigroup.
